Good to know
Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Decoding supports UTF-8 text rather than arbitrary binary files. Uses the standard + / alphabet.
Operation: encode Input: 안녕하세요 👋
Understand and use your results
Compare Base64 text from APIs or configuration with its UTF-8 string form. This encoding is reversible by anyone and must not be used to hide secrets.
How to use it
- Choose encoding or decoding and paste the text.
- Inspect and copy the result. On a decoding error, check that the input is standard Base64.
Worked example
Hello
SGVsbG8=
This represents the UTF-8 bytes using the standard Base64 alphabet. The final = is padding. Korean and emoji are encoded as UTF-8 bytes first, which can make the result longer than for Latin text.
Can it decode images or URL-safe Base64?
This tool is for text, not arbitrary binary images. It uses the standard + / alphabet rather than the URL-safe - _ alphabet. Invalid UTF-8 bytes produce an error instead of replacement characters.
