Good to know
A Korean character usually uses 3 UTF-8 bytes; 😀 uses 4. Character counts use Unicode code points, so joined emoji may count as multiple characters. Without whitespace excludes spaces, tabs and line breaks.
안녕 Hello 😀
Understand and use your results
Check application forms or posts against character and storage limits. Characters and bytes measure different things: first check which limit the destination actually uses.
How to use it
- Type or paste text; the counts update immediately without a Run button.
- Read the character, whitespace-excluded, UTF-8 byte and line counts separately.
Worked example
안녕 A😀
characters: 5 withoutSpaces: 4 bytes: 12 lines: 1 words: 2
The two Korean characters use 6 bytes, the space and A use 1 each, and 😀 uses 4: 12 bytes in total. Words are whitespace-separated groups, not linguistic word segmentation.
Why can another site report a different count?
This tool counts Unicode code points. A joined emoji can look like one symbol while containing several code points. A destination may count UTF-16 units, grapheme clusters or a different encoding; its own submission limit remains the final reference.
