Good to know

A screening reference for adults aged 20+. BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Interpretation is limited during pregnancy or with high muscle mass. This is not a diagnosis or a child/teen calculator.

For example
Height (cm, 80–250): 170
Weight (kg, 20–500): 70
Adult classification: korea
FIELD NOTES

Understand and use your results

Calculate adult body mass index and distinguish Korean and WHO classifications, which can place the same BMI in different categories.

How to use it

  1. Enter height in cm and weight in kg for an adult aged 20+.
  2. Choose Korean KSSO or WHO criteria.
  3. Read the BMI and category as screening information.

Worked example

Input and options
170 cm · 70 kg
Result or interpretation
BMI: 24.22 kg/m²
Korean criteria: pre-obesity
WHO criteria: normal range

70 ÷ 1.7² ≈ 24.22. Korean thresholds are underweight below 18.5; normal 18.5–<23; pre-obesity 23–<25; obesity classes I/II/III at 25/30/35. WHO uses normal 18.5–<25, overweight 25–<30 and obesity classes I/II/III at 30/35/40.

Can BMI determine health or body fat on its own?

BMI does not directly measure body fat. Muscle mass, fat distribution, pregnancy and age affect interpretation. Children and teenagers require age- and sex-specific assessment and should not use this tool. It is not a diagnosis or a prescribed target weight; discuss health with a clinician. Classification uses the unrounded value.
